Statistics show us that young people:

  • Aged 12 to 35 in the UK were more likely to be a victim of violence than older age groups.  This is roughly twice as high as the victimisation rate of those aged 25 to 34 (4.4%) and roughly 20 times as high as the rate for those aged 65 -74 (fewer than 0.5%).(Violent crime and sexual offences report 2011/12 – ONS)
  • Males were more than twice as likely as women (4.2% compared with 1.8%) to have experienced violence in the year prior to interview. The risk was highest for males aged 16 to 24 at 13.3 per cent. (2009/10 BCS)
  • A total of 30,394 crimes were reported place at primary schools, secondary schools and further education establishments – excluding universities, according to the data of 32 forces.(BBC report/Victoria Derbyshire programme)
  • There were almost 26,000 counselling sessions with children about bulling last year (NSPCC)
  • 15% of 13 & 14 yr olds have sent a naked photo of themselves at least once (Ditch the label/Wireless )
  • Almost 1 in 4 young people have come across racist or hate messages online (Livingstone )
